More than a decade after its closure, in 2010, a historic power plant next to Beloit Col ege in southern Wisconsin has been given an unexpected new life. Adaptively redesigned Beloit

by the architects at Studio Gang, the once obsolete facility is now a multipurpose fitness center and student union cal ed the Powerhouse. But its coal-burning days are hardly forgotten.
